How to make your seating chart

  1. Add your guests. Type or paste names, one on each line. With an account, your guest list fills this in for you.

  2. Add your tables. Add a head table, then round or long tables, and say how many seats each has. You can rename a table or change its size at any time.

  3. Keep apart, or seat together. Add a rule for people who shouldn't share a table, or who must. Say whether it must always hold or only if possible.

  4. Fill the empty seats. Seat the head table and anyone you've decided on yourself, then tap Fill the empty seats. It seats everyone else, keeps households and couples together and keeps your rules. Undo puts it back.

  5. Move anyone you like. On a phone, tap the Seat menu beside a name and choose a table. On a computer you can also drag a guest onto a table, or use the keyboard.

  6. Print it. Print the chart with each table and its guests, and a list of everyone A to Z with their table. Save it as a PDF for your venue or your planner.

Seating is easiest in two passes: put the people who must be together or apart in first, then fill the gaps. Nothing here is locked. Move a guest as often as you like, and the chart keeps count of the free seats.

Frequently asked questions

How many people sit at a wedding table?
Round tables of 8 to 10 are the most common, and long tables vary with the room. Ask your venue how many each table can hold comfortably, then set the number of seats for each table here.
Who should sit where at a wedding?
Many couples seat family close to the front, group friends who know each other, and put guests who don't know many people with ones they're likely to get along with. Use the keep-apart and seat-together rules for anyone who needs special care.
Can I keep two guests from sitting together?
Yes. Add a keep-apart rule for the two guests. If they end up at the same table, the chart shows a note so you can move one. Nothing is blocked; you decide.
Can I use my guest list?
Yes. With a free account, the seating chart uses your guest list, so you enter everyone once. Guests who can't come are left off the list of people to seat.
Can it seat everyone for me?
Yes, for free. Tap Fill the empty seats and it seats everyone still to seat. Households and couples always stay together, people you asked to always keep apart never share a table, "if possible" rules may bend when tables are tight, and nobody you've already seated moves. If a family is bigger than any table, it says so and leaves them for you.
How do guests find their seat?
Each guest's own RSVP link can show their table. Switch on "Show guests their table" and the link says "You're on the Oak table". It only ever shows that guest's own seat, so nobody can look anyone else up. It stops a week after the wedding.
Is there a limit on the number of guests?
No. The seating chart has no guest limit, free or paid.
Is it free, and is my chart private?
It is free, and you don't need an account. Your chart is saved only in your own browser. If you want to keep it safe across devices and share it with your partner, you can save it to a free account.
