Fall wedding colors
Fall wedding color palettes with named colors and hex codes, the flowers in season, and a free generator to make your own.
Fall weddings feel warm, deep and full of texture. The light is low and golden, and it goes early, so candles and lanterns earn their place. The 16 palettes below are named, with hex codes, and each one opens in the editor so you can lock, shuffle and change it.
Start with the generator: it is set to fall shades. Take the quiz if you want your own style, or pick a palette you like and make it yours.

A veil shade to look at
With a neutral like yours, Ivory is the veil shade we would look at first. Colors look different on every screen, so see it in person where you can. We never promise an exact match. Your palette is a warm cream.

About the flowers and the names
- The color names are ours, each given with its plain hex code.
- Flowers in season are a guide written for this page and checked by hand.
Three ways to build fall wedding colors
- Burgundy and blush: Claret with Blush Beige, Clotted Cream and Soft Brass is rich without being heavy.
- Rust, sage and cream: Rust, Sage Leaf and Oat Milk are the quiet harvest palette, easy to build in dried and fresh flowers.
- Jewel tones: Plum, Honey and Olive Grove, or Navy Night with Mustard Seed, suit an evening room and are easy to find in fall flowers.

Fall colors for the wedding party
- Deep wine, rust, olive or navy in heavier fabrics.
- Charcoal, navy or brown suits; velvet or tweed details look right.
- A shawl or jacket for the evening is kind to guests.
What colors to wear to a fall wedding
- White, ivory and cream are usually the couple's, so most guests leave them to the couple. The same goes for a very pale champagne.
- If the invitation names the wedding party's color, wear something different.
- In some traditions all black is for mourning and all white is for the couple, and red can be the couple's color at some Chinese and Indian weddings. If you are not sure, ask, or check the invitation for a dress code.
- Otherwise, wear what you feel good in. Colors that suit the season are always welcome.
How to choose fall wedding colors
Start with one thing you love. A season, a color, a photo of the venue or a dress, or nothing yet. Any of them is a fine place to begin.
Pick a few pictures. Three short rounds. Choose two to four in each, and the quiz names your style.
Check the five colors. You get a main color, an accent, a neutral, greenery and a metal, each with our name and a hex code.
Change what you like. Lock the ones you love and shuffle the rest, make any of them lighter or darker, or choose from about 120 named colors.
Share it. Make a board for your florist or stationer, or send a link to your partner and see what you both chose.
Questions people ask
- What are the best fall wedding colors?
- Warm, deep ones: burgundy and blush, rust and sage, mustard and navy, plum and olive, wine and gold. They sit well with fall flowers like dahlias and chrysanthemums.
- Do fall wedding colors have to be orange?
- No. Orange is only one direction. Deep greens, plums, blues and soft neutrals all feel right for fall, and many couples avoid the obvious orange altogether.
- Which flowers are in season for a fall wedding?
- Dahlias, Sunflowers, Zinnias, Celosia, Chrysanthemums, Asters and Amaranthus are at their best. A florist will know what is growing near you.
- What is the weather like for a fall wedding?
- New York: usually 54 to 76°F by day and 42 to 62°F at night, with rain on about 1 day in 4. Chicago: usually 49 to 76°F by day and 35 to 59°F at night, with rain on about 1 day in 4. These are averages from 30 years of records, not a forecast.
- How many colors should a fall wedding have?
- Five is plenty: a main, an accent, a neutral, greenery and a metal. Our fall palettes above follow that pattern, and you can change any of them in the editor.
