Free wedding hashtag generator

Make a wedding hashtag from your names, surname, year and place. Dozens of ideas, no account and no email. Plus a better way to collect every photo.

Type two first names and get dozens of wedding hashtag ideas: your names, a surname, plays on words, a place and a year. It is free, it needs no account and no email, and the list is never locked.

Hashtags are fading, and many guests never use them. If your guests do, a short, clear tag is the one that gets used. Read it aloud first.

Your names

Two first names are enough. The rest makes the list longer.

Surname

A town, a venue or a region.

Ideas

Add two first names and the ideas appear here.

A hashtag finds the photos guests post publicly. To get every photo, including the ones never posted, guests can add them by scanning a QR code.

How to choose a wedding hashtag

  1. Add your names. Two first names are enough. A nickname makes the list longer.

  2. Add a surname, a year or a place if you like. Each adds ideas of its own. You can leave any of them out.

  3. Read the ideas aloud. The capitals vanish when you say a tag, and two words can run together into a third. The page flags the ones to check.

  4. Look it up. The links open Instagram, TikTok and Google in a new tab, so you can see whether someone else has it.

  5. Save it and copy it. Save the ones you like and copy the one you choose.

What makes a good wedding hashtag

Short enough to type on a phone: twelve to twenty-four characters, counting the # sign, is the sweet spot. Written in CamelCase, such as #AlexAndSam, so that screen readers can read it as words. With no hyphens or apostrophes, which cut a tag short: O'Brien becomes #OBrien.

Accents are removed unless you keep them, because not every app keeps them. #Zoë and #Zoe are different tags to a computer.

What a hashtag will and will not do

A hashtag finds the photos guests post publicly. It will not find the ones they never post, and it gives you no control over what is posted. To get every photo, including the ones never posted, guests can add them by scanning a QR code.

Checking that it is yours

We cannot see how many posts a hashtag already has, because Instagram does not share that. The look-up links open the apps so you can check for yourself, and a quick search on Google shows whether another wedding has used it.

Questions people ask

How do I make a wedding hashtag?
Put your two first names together in CamelCase, such as #AlexAndSam, then add a surname, a year or a place for a longer one. This page does that for you.
How long should a wedding hashtag be?
Twelve to twenty-four characters, counting the # sign. Shorter is easier to type; longer is easier to keep unique.
Why CamelCase?
Screen readers read a lower-case hashtag as one long word. Capitals show where each word starts.
Can a wedding hashtag have a hyphen or an apostrophe?
No. They cut a tag short, so O'Brien becomes #OBrien and Shah-Lewis becomes #ShahLewis.
Can AI generate a good wedding hashtag?
It can, but you do not need it. This page uses simple rules and our own list of word plays, with no AI, so the ideas are free and instant.
Do I need a wedding hashtag?
No. Many couples skip it. If you want every photo, including the ones guests never post, a shared photo album is more reliable.
